- Japan Society for the Promotion of Science：Grants-in-Aid for Scientific ResearchDate (from‐to) : 2006 -2008Author : ARAI Arai; TAMURA Keiko; KANO Hiroshi; FUKUDA Kazunobu調査表回収率は全体で5割ほどであった。458部は十分とは言えないが、丁寧な聞き取り調査によって数値を補うことができた。インドシナ諸国華僑華人の移動は政治的混乱と戦争が最大の要因で新概念による分類が必要となった。従来は旧華僑・華人、新華僑の2分類であったが、難民華僑という分類である。彼らは受け入れ国、脱出国、中華文化の三者に濃淡差のあるアイデンティティを持つ点が他地域の華人と異なる点である。また欧米の難民華僑社会は民族・文化的共通の通信回路を持つエクスターナル・チャイナ的領域の拡大と見ることもでき、ワン・ガンウの理論は合致するが、移動に関して華僑大衆は生活次第で定住する傾向があり、難民華僑成功者も受け入れ国に資産を置きながらだ出国に帰国投資するもので、一族挙げて戻ることはない。この点ワン氏の理論は問題はあるが、都市間の移動という点では当てはまる。

At first, we carried out the fieldwork investigation concern pollution problems in China, Korea, and Far East Russia and established opportunities for an exchange of ideas with each scholar. The result showed that it was necessary to balance some policies to address serious environmental problems with development of each regional economy in North-East Asia Region, which help to settle some issues this area faced. Secondly, we held three international symposiums in term of this project and had an animated discussion with scholar from China, Korea and Far East Russia and domestic experts. In those symposiums, we succeeded in finding not only the significance of environmental cooperation in North-East Asia, but also possibility of the formulation of interdisciplinary and integrated studies though States in East Asia encounter some problems of economic disparities and the differences about administration systems. Especially we reevaluated correspondence in citizen administration and cooperation in order to conquer regional pollution such as Yokkaichi Asthma. Finally, we proposed "YOKKAICHI Studies" including, human science, futurology, environmental education and Asian study, which is never obsessed with existing academic area. As a result of our works, Two books were published ; "Toward Environmental Amenity Eco- City- Suggestion from YOKKAICHI Air Pollution", Chuouhouki, 2004 and "YOKKAICHI Studies- Environmental Study for the Future", Fubaisya, 2005. "YOKKAICHI Studies" is also made active use of as a tool of environmental study in Mie University.
- Japan Society for the Promotion of Science：Grants-in-Aid for Scientific ResearchDate (from‐to) : 2001 -2003Author : ARAI Shigeo; TAMURA Keiko; FUKUDA Kazunobu; AAJIKI Kazuhiro; TANAKA KyokoThe main purpose of this research project is to illustrate the Ethnic Chinese movement, migration and their life in the local cities of Southeast Asia. During the 3 years period we have visited 13cities in Malaysia, Indonesia including Borneo, Kalimantan and Sumatra carried out the field work by interview ad questionnaires. The questions were divided roughly into four major items, such as 1) Generation, Occupation, Family Composition, Migrations, 2) Education and Language Life, 3) Economic Life, 4) Multiple Identity, and set up the whole questions into 33 items. we distributed questionnaires and had interviews as many as we can. In the past research on old-generation Overseas Chinese people, the field work like we have done has not almost been done. There was only the field work which Prof. Arai head of this project did uniquely in Malaysia in 1991 supported by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. Therefore, this research also indicates comparatively the changes of the consciousness of today's Malaysian Chinese people through which it passed for ten years or more. We have analyzed those collected questionnaires and interviews and widely about the ethnic Chinese consciousness concerning migration and setting, which played an important role for the formation of the Southeast Asian local cities, with emphasis on their life consciousness, multiple identity, education and language life, and their relation with China. These all shows the regional differences among the ethnic Chinese society and their characteristics and meanings, which have resulted after migration through the generation in piles by the end of today. Therefore this research tries to show the viewpoint to consider the new Southeast Asia and East Asian world from the angle of the ethnic Chinese who are living in local cities in the region.
