The poupous of this study was to find the current situation of the student supervision in the social work practicum for the education and training of the Certified Social Workers in Japan. Based on the findings of the present situation of the student supervision, it added with this poupous to develop the effective student supervision program for keeping the well-qualified professional manpower in the area of social welfare in Japan. The results showed that the meaning of “supervision” used among the field instructors in the social work practicum was vague and diverse. Among the schools of social work at the universities in north America, on the other hand, the Educational Policy and Core Curriculums on the education and training for social work students has been clearly established by the Council on Social Work Education(C.S.W.E) to assure the higher quality of profession for the field work education and trainings.

Changing government-private relationships in the privatized area of human services were examined based on the panel surveys of service organizations operating under the long-term care insurance system (LTCI) in Japan. LTCI was the very first privatized-public human service system in the country. The outcomes indicated that nonprofit and for-profit organizations maintained differences under LTCI or the latter sector increased in similarities with the former sector. The outcome was opposite to the nonprofit and for-profit relationships reported from Western countries. The unique nonprofit and for-profit relationship under LTCI was explained based on the resource allocation mechanisms in relation to the roles of the government. The outcome was also compared with nonprofit and for-profit relationships in the US and in Taiwan, for the purpose of carving out the challenges that Japanese nonprofit organizations are especially required to overcome.

The purpose of this study was to develop the Expert System for Japanese psychiatric social workers. The case management methods have become popular in Japan since the law of care management services for elderly people had been settled. In the psychiatric area, it is still new to study about the case management as a helping method. The research methods were as follows: The psychiatric social workers who served at the psychiatric hospitals in Kanagawa were asked to make care-management plans for the out/in patients. They put the data into the computer system which we had developed. The ADL scale and GAF of DSM-IV were used for the psychiatric social workers to make an assessment for the patients. conclusion, it was found that these two scales could not be accurate scales for the development of the Expert System for Japanese psychiatric social workers. In other words, it was found that the care management for psychiatric patients could be quite different form the care management for elderly people.
