    Abstract: Generative AI (GenAI) is rapidly transforming numerous sectors, and education stands poised to be significantly impacted. In this talk, we explore the transformative potential of GenAI in revolutionizing the education industry. GenAI has the unprecedented ability to personalize learning experiences, democratize access to quality education, and support educators in creating engaging and interactive content. Its promise as a catalyst for innovation and inclusiveness positions GenAI as a potential panacea for many of the challenges faced by modern education systems. However, alongside these optimistic prospects, we must also address the accompanying Pandora's box: risks and ethical considerations that come with this powerful technology. Potential dangers, such as data privacy concerns, biases in AI-generated content, and the erosion of critical thinking skills, will be examined. In particular, the latter half of the talk will showcase an example from our ongoing project, demonstrating how multimodal GenAI can be harnessed for inquiry-based and self-paced programming education in a cost-effective manner without compromising the essence of learning. The goal is not to simply embrace or reject GenAI in education, but to explore how we can leverage its transformative power responsibly, ensuring that it becomes a tool for empowerment and equitable access to quality education for all. This talk aims to spark a constructive dialogue about the future of learning with GenAI, exploring how we can unlock its full potential while carefully managing the inherent risks.

    Abstract: The significance of communication in research – be it through conference or journal papers, presentations, or any other form of outreach – cannot be overstated. This talk underscores the importance of research communication by writing meaningful scientific articles not only as a mere tool for reporting research findings, but also as an integral process encompassing the whole research lifecycle. This talk aims to equip researchers with the essential skills and best practices to craft clear, concise, and impactful manuscripts. We will explore the key components of a research paper, with emphasis on the importance of clarity, coherence, and adherence to the need of potential readership. Practical tips for avoiding common pitfalls and enhancing the readability of papers by structuring a concise and compelling narrative will also be discussed. By the end of this talk, participants are expected to gain valuable insights and strategies to improve their scientific writing, ultimately contributing to the dissemination of high-quality research within the broader scientific community.

    Comprising approximately 86 billion neurons and trillions of synapses among them, the human brain represents an incredibly complex structure with intricate folding and interconnected regions. In contrast, the neural network architectures of modern large language models (LLMs) appear deceptively simple. Yet, these LLMs astound us by emulating human-like languages with astonishing sophistication. Fueled by these powerful LLMs, the advent of generative AI (GenAI) has stunned the world with potential disruptive impacts across all industry sectors. The domain of education is no exception. According to Grand View Research, the AI education market revenue is projected to reach USD 32.27 billion by 2030, growing at a compound annual rate of 36% from 2022 to 2030. Indeed, GenAI holds immense promise for revolutionizing education, but it also presents challenges. This talk will explore how GenAI can be harnessed in education, examining both its potential benefits and associated risks. We will then delve into a case study featuring a GenAI-powered application for language learning, grounded in pedagogical principles and learning sciences.

    受賞者: Yadanar Lin;Fahim Khan2024年11月23日に神奈川工科大学で開催された第21回IEEE Transdisciplinary-Oriented Workshop for Emerging Researchers (IEEE TOWERS) で、Yadanar Linさんは「Athena：AI Programming Mentor」と題したポスター発表を行い、全国の大学から約70名の発表者の中から最も評価の高い発表者に贈られるTOWERS Best Award賞を受賞しました。学習と創造的思考を促進する教育学に基づき、Linさんはオープンソースの大規模言語モデル（LLM）と検索拡張生成（RAG）を活用したマルチモーダル AI プログラミング チューターである Athenaというシステム を開発しました。Athenaの有効性は、実際のプログラミング学生を対象としたユーザースタディを通じて実証されました。LinさんはINIADのKhan研究室の学部4年生です。

    受賞者: 片野坂 俊樹;Fahim Khan;坂村健片野坂 俊樹（情報連携学研究科博士後期課程1年・Khan研究室）、Fahim Khan（INIAD教授）、坂村健（INIAD創設者、INIAD cHUB 機構長）が共著した「A Cooperative Card Game for Learning Social Media Etiquette」と題された論文が、16th International Congress on Advanced Applied Informatics 2024 (IIAI AAI 2024)と併せて開催された16th International Conference on Learning Technologies and Learning Environments (LTLE 2024)で Best Paper Award（最優秀論文賞）を受賞しました。優秀論文は、Honorable Mention Award、Competitive Paper Award、Outstanding Paper Award、Best Paper Award（トップカテゴリー）の4つのカテゴリーで授与されました。 IIAI AAI 2024は、8つの国際会議を併設した高度応用情報科学に関する国際学会 (congress)の総称で、科学者・エンジニア・コンピュータユーザー・学生が一堂に会し高度応用情報科学に関する理論・応用・研究成果・課題・解決策を交換、共有、議論する場です。IIAI AAI 2024は、International Institute of Applied Informatics (IIAI)が主催し、公益財団法人 高松観光コンベンション・ビューローが支援しました。会議は7月6日から12日まで高松市のサンポート高松で開催されました。IIAI AAI 会議 2024 には、17の国から合計293件の論文が提出されました。厳正な審査の結果、87件の論文が regular paperとして選ばれました。今回受賞した論文は採択された87本の中からさらに上位の論文として選ばれたものです。会議のProceedingsはIEEE Computer Societyによって出版され、IEEE XploreおよびIEEE CSDL（Scopus索引）にアーカイブされます。また、Khan教授は会議のTechnical Program Committee のメンバーであり、IIAI AAI 2024の2つのセッションのチェアも務めていました。

    片野坂 俊樹（情報連携学研究科博士前期課程1年・Khan研究室）、Fahim Khan准教授と坂村健教授（INIAD学部長）による共著論文「Quiz and Treasures: Development of a Web-based Learning Platform using Gamification」が、2021年7月11日～16日にオンラインで開催された国際会議 10th International Congress on Advanced Applied Informatics（IIAI-AAI 2021）において、「Honorable Mention Award」（特別賞）を受賞しました。IIAI-AAIは、毎年、数百人規模の開催される国際会議で、「Honorable Mention Award」はその中から査読スコアの高かった上位の論文に与えられます。会議のProceedingsはIEEE Computer Societyによって出版され、IEEE XploreおよびIEEE CSDL（Scopus登録誌）にアーカイブされます。

    受賞者: Fahim Khan;坂村健Fahim Khan准教授と坂村健教授（INIAD学部長）による共著論文「A Distributed Approach to Delegation of Access Rights for Electronic Health Records」が、2020年1月バルセロナ(スペイン)で開催された19th International Conference on Electronics, Information, and Communication (ICEIC 2020) において、優秀論文賞ゴールド・プライズを受賞しました。 この賞には、証明書と300米ドルの賞金が与えられます。 ICEIC2020は、IEIEとIEEEによって開催されたもので、本学会では、口頭発表用に選ばれた86の論文から、Gold、Silver、Bronzeの3つのカテゴリで3つの優秀論文賞が授与されました。

    Fahim Khan准教授が、Future of Computing Academy（FCA）の会員に選出されました。これは、コンピュータ分野の世界最大の学会であるACM（Association for Computing Machinery）が設置するアカデミーで、次世代の研究者、実務家、教育者、起業家等のリーダー人材を育成・支援するための組織です。 このアカデミーには、世界19ヶ国から46人のコンピュータ分野を代表する研究者たちが会員として選出されており、Khan准教授は日本から選ばれた唯一のメンバーです。Khan准教授は、この会員として、コンピュータ分野におけるノーベル賞ともいわれるチューリング賞50周年大会に招待され、これまでにチューリング賞を受賞した研究者たちとのセッションにも参加しました。
