When controlling the magnetic field generated by accelerator magnets, the magnetic hysteresis behavior is one of the practical obstacles in determining the current values. Among various hysteresis models proposed in the electric machine field, the play model is well-known for its high expressiveness of the measured data and ease of coupling with the electromagnetic field analysis. Hence, it is desirable to apply the play model to accelerator magnets as well. However, the magnetic after effect cannot be neglected in accelerator magnets. The influence of the magnetic after effect on the magnetic hysteresis has never been quantitatively studied. Thus, in this presentation, the gap magnetic field of accelerator magnets was measured under various excitation conditions, to acquire the experimental data for modeling. As a result, it was found that the magnetic after effect may affect the magnetic hysteresis behavior, and accordingly indicated that the play model cannot be directly applied to accelerator magnets. In the future, we plan to establish a novel hysteresis model considering the magnetic after effect in combination with the previous model.
