    本研究は、20世紀に発生した主要なイベントを用いて、その前後で海運ネットワークに生じた変化を定量的に示すことで複数均衡の可能性を実証的に分析することが主要な目的である。 初年度は計画通り基幹データセットの構築と資料収集を行った。本研究で用いる基幹データはロイズインデックス(1890-2000年)である。これは雑誌刊行物であり、画像ファイルとしてデジタル化したものをテキストデータ化することで初めて分析可能な状態となる。抽出データ(5年に1度の数巻)については多少の準備で分析可能な状態であるが、非抽出データ(全巻)については膨大な量の画像ファイルであり、OCR作業とデータとしての整形作業などが時間的にも技術的にも困難であることが判明した。そのため、ひとまず前者を用いた分析を行うこととした。 準備段階として、主要なイベントをそれぞれ挙げたうえで、予測されるデータの挙動とそのメカニズムについて議論を行った。メインテーマとしては第三次中東戦争によるスエズ運河の閉鎖とし、メンバー全員で取り組むこととし、フランスにあるアーカイブデータを収集し始めている。また、アフリカの沿岸貿易に関する植民地統計についても収集を始めた。 予備段階的考察としては、データが全世界をカバーしていることから、大域的な分析および局所的な分析の両方が可能である点、港湾間競争および階層性の存在などが明らかとなっている。
