    令和３年度は，仏教教団の内部において出家者がどのように経典を唱誦（読誦）したのかという問題に焦点を当て，初期仏教聖典の律蔵の「カンダカ」や「スッタヴィバンガ」などの中で経や律が唱誦されている箇所について整理をおこない，それらの内容を考察した．平林（研究代表者）は，それら整理・考察した中で「唱える／誦える」という動詞やその派生語が使用されている用例について日本印度学仏教学会で発表し，論文としてその内容をまとめた． 読誦経典の研究としては，吹田・名和（研究分担者）が中央アジアから出土したサンスクリット仏教写本の訳注研究を進めた．『ニダーナサンユクタ』については写本に欠損がある部分などを除き，ほぼ和訳を終えた．写本に欠損がある箇所については，パーリ文献，漢訳，チベット語訳などを用いて比較研究を進めている． 読誦経典のサンスクリット写本については，ゲッティンゲン科学アカデミーのChung Jin-il博士（研究協力者）の協力の下，写本の解読を進めている．具体的な内容の一つとしては，『義足経』ついてChung Jin-il博士が研究した内容を発表してもらい，『義足経』の諸写本・タイトル・内容などについて，それらの内容を検討した． この他，中央アジアから出土した写本については写本の書体について研究を進めており，いくつかの写本については文字表の作成を開始した．これらの文字表を基に中央アジアから出土した写本の地域や時代をより詳細に研究していきたいと考えている．

    This research project focused on the study of Buddhist Sanskrit manuscripts from Greater Gandhara and Central Asia preserved mainly at the British Library, the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Archives of India. Firstly, regarding the British Library's manuscripts, we advanced research on the Hoernle and Stein Collection. Secondly, concerning manuscripts kept at the Russian Academy of Sciences, we deciphered and identified Buddhist Sanskrit fragments and transliterated Dharani manuscripts. Thirdly, we published colour facsimile editions of the manuscripts of the Ajitasenavyakarana and the Prajnaparamita which are preserved at the National Archives of India. The next volumes of The British Library Sanskrit Fragments and The St. Petersburg Sanskrit Fragments will be published in the near future.

    The achievements of this research for the purpose of actual elucidation of Buddhists and their community during the 7th century CE on the basis of the Vinaya texts are summarized as the following two points. 1) A critical edition of the Sanskrit text of 1 -150 sutras of the Pravrajyavastu in the Vinayasutra together with their commentary in the Vinayasutravrtty-abhidhana-svavyakhyana and its Japanese translation are completed. 2) The Vinayasutra Workshop was organized, in which participants of Vinaya experts from home and abroad could exchange several information. It can be said that this opportunity contributed to establishment of a research base for text critical studies of Vinaya texts.
