    The German Turfan expeditions to Chinese Central Asia, which took place between 1902 and 1914, published many records of their investigations. These records included photographs of the sites they explored, which were taken on glass plates during their travels. Some of these historical photographs have remained unpublished to this day because the locations and current state of the archaeological sites depicted in them are not entirely clear. Prof. Dr. Nishimura collaborated with Peking University and the cultural relics bureaus in Xinjiang to identify these archaeological sites. In this lecture, she will present the current status of the sites investigated by the German team based on the results of her work.

    Digital Complete Map of Peking, Qianlong Period. An old map of Beijing, created about 250 years ago, can be browsed on Google Earth, and can be searched by placenames. Old landscape of Beijing is revived by the collection of old photographs in a way that they can be viewed from the original location and direction with the help of Google Earth.

    2021年度研究実績の概要としては、まずは「気候」を主題として7月に開催されたLeeds International Medieval Congressに諫早と中塚が参加し、「14世紀の危機」をはじめとする中世期の環境史研究について現状視察を行った。特にプライザー＝カペラーによる基調講演「気候変動の十字軍？」は、今や環境史は気候変動と地域の生態系および人間社会との相互作用（interplay）を描くべき段階に来ていると主張するもので、我々のプロジェクトの今後にとっても資するところが多くあった。「中世気候異常期」から「小氷期」への大きな気候の転換期にあって、人間と自然とは、新たなエコ・システムを生み出していった。プロジェクトの主眼たるモンゴル帝国に関しても、帝国による人的・物的資源の移動を、新たなエコ・システムの構築という観点から捉えることができる。2回のミーティングでは、先述のプライザー＝カペラーのドイツ語2巻本『初めての収穫と大きな飢饉』および『長い夏と小氷期』について大貫が解説を行い、メンバー内で理解を深めた。これに加えて、「14世紀の危機」プロジェクトについて重要だと思われる著作について、中塚、宇野、西村、長瀬がそれぞれに書評を行い、諫早が総括する特集「一四世紀の危機：研究の現在」を『史苑』82巻2号で展開した。書評とした研究書はそれぞれ、トロエ『年輪で読む世界史』、白石『モンゴル帝国の誕生』、葛ら『中国歴朝気候変化』、ブレット『初期イスラーム期イランにおける綿花・気候・ラクダ』であった。この特集号の総括において諫早は、「14世紀の危機」の〈13世紀的文脈〉とも言うべき事象に注意を払うべきことを主張した。気候の変動や疫病の流行はすでに前世紀から始まっており、これにより着目することで、より「14世紀の危機」の全体像に迫ることができるという理解である。

    By rendering a century of landmark “incidents” and historical epochs in East Asian history into a discreet number of topics, this collaborative research project aimed to investigate the functions and reception of audio-visual historical materials in light of these seemingly contradictory impulses. Regarding specific methodology, we have conducted comparisons of audio-visual materials produced throughout the region by (a) adopting the methods of visual studies analysis, (b) analyzing information through content analysis of language; and (c) introducing communications-patterns analysis in order to clarify the cause-and-effect relationship between the image of conflict and cooperation for each epoch and its audio-visual historical materials.

    In this research, I developed the method of re-identification of Silk Road ruins recorded on Silk Road expeditions' reports and today's excavation reports through digitization and analysis of Aurel Stein's Maps made around 100 years ago. In Stein Maps, there are similler errors in each areas because of the technical limit of that times. In this research, Firstly I analyzed the error tendency of two old maps made by Stein. Secondly I performed ruin identification for Turfan and Khotan areas using error information and field survey, and succeeded in linking many of the missing ruins to currently known ruins. Finally, we started to develop the Silk Road ruins database for common use of these re-identification results.

    近年の日本におけるシルクロード東部地域の歴史に関する研究で特に目立っているのは,5~10世紀頃のトルコ系・チベット系諸民族と東方に進出したソグド人の歴史,並びに13~14世紀のモンゴル時代史である.本研究班の主要メンバーは,そのうちの前者をリードしてきた者たちであるが,内モンゴル・山西・陝西・寧夏・甘粛北部・新疆ウイグル自治区東部における現地調査を踏まえて,さらにその動向を進展させる成果をあげることができた.
