    当初、本研究はコロナ前の状態を想定しており、大学での留学体験を、大学間の交流、インバウンド、そしてキャリアにどのように結びつけていくかを想定して申請した研究だったが、 2019年度の末にコロナ感染が拡大したことにより、大幅に研究内容を変更せざるをえなくなった。 これは対面でのインタビューやフォーカス・グループの実施が難しくなったためである。 代わりに、オンラインでどのような海外研修ができるのか、 また オンラインになったことによるメリット（すなわち現場にいて海外の人とどのように交流できるか）、 そしてコロナ前の対面での留学とコロナ後のオンラインでの留学にどのような違いがあり、学生にどのような影響を与えているかなどを調査するため、昨年度はアンケート調査を行った。 このアンケートはパイロット・スタディーという位置づけで、 本年度に本格的なアンケート調査を行うつもりであるが、 このパイロット・スタディーでは、外部業者を通じて、 オンラインでの留学経験者50名、 対面での経験者50名の学生にアンケート調査を行った。 その結果、いずれの形の留学においても、 語学力、異文化能力および人間的な面で成長できたとする回答が大半であった。 ただし語学力においてはリスニング、スピーキングは伸びたと感じても、リーディングや ライティングは、伸びたと回答する割合が極端に少なかったことは今後の調査の課題と言える。また、 社会人基礎力については、 主体性、他者に働きかける力、柔軟性が伸びたとする学生の割合が高かったものの、 それが具体的にどのようなことなのか、今年度はインタビューやフォーカスグループなどを行い、内容を掘り下げていくつもりである。 また、研究代表者のみならず分担者も、論文や著書の出版など、順調に発行することができた。

    本研究により、日本人が「グローバルに活躍できない」理由の大きな点は、「プレゼンテーション能力」が足りないことであるとわかった。これは英語力の問題ではなく、提案力や説得力が足りないということである。そして、そうした能力があるビジネスパーソンは、部下や同僚、取引先など周囲から尊敬、信頼されるということである。これは、国籍や文化は関係なく、調査をしたすべての企業で共通な人材像であった。 そこで、本研究では、相手を説得できるプレゼンテーション能力の育成とその評価を行う必要性を明らかにした。

    本研究は、日本のグローバル人材育成について、1)需要と供給、すなわち、実業界などの実践の場と大学教育とのギャップ、2)日本国内で考える人材と海外の視点とのギャップを調査し、研究成果に基づいた示唆を大学へ提言することを目的とした研究である。 海外、特にイギリス、欧州、北米、およびアジアで働く日本人ビジネスパーソンや海外留学する日本人学生を中心に、インタビューおよびフォーカス・グループを積み上げ、個人、組織、そして国レベルでの課題を明らかにし、数々の国際学会やジャーナルで結果を発表した。
