We published a book as the result of the study, the title is "Making villages that were lived and inherited". The outline of the contents is as follows:
For the continuity of villages, it is necessary to draw the vision of villages to be inherited, changing villages qualitatively. It is necessary to keep people who inherits village strategically.
We considered that the quantity of activities in a village could not be reduced if the living people would interchange positively. Then, incidental possibility of appearing a person who live in would spread.
"Yato=small valley" that remained in the South Kanto area centering around Yokohama city is discussed and analyzed to make clear its topography, actual conditions, administration related to, and performance in urban life and environment. In Yokohama city, more than 4600 Yatos are counted. A typical basic unit of Yato consists of 2-30 meters high U shaped slopes surrounding lower flat field with dozens of meters' width and mostly 200 meter depth. Some of them are developed as a part of urban area and the others are kept as somewhat green areas. Where the nature is well conserved Yato's environmental and social role and role for urban life is quite remarkable. It is proved that Yato will become precious resources in the South Kanto area for the improvement of urban environment.

In this research, we aim to establish long life learning methods that share and utilize old photographs and owner's memories. In results, we establish(1) the long life learning process leading to utilizing from the collecting of old photographs and memories,(2) decoding method of regional environment and landscape forming process using old photographs.
This research was composed with case studies in Hayakawa (Yamanashi), Uemachi-daichi (Osaka), Borobudur Sub district (Indonesia), and others, where the authors have directly collaborated with the inhabitants' activities toward promoting the landscape conservation through re-evaluating and utilizing local resources by the initiative of local community. We examined how to set up and utilize Database System as the collection of oral stories on landscape use, and examined the effectiveness of the linked program between the database and the on-site physical activities.

This research aimed to set out trajectories for rural spatial planning connecting the natural environmental systems and socio-economic systems of areas. A spatial plan should be more than a conventional agricultural policy or land use plan. It should include sustainable land use planning and dynamic socio-economic elements of non-agricultural sectors in the area.
Three main research findings were as follows :
1.The remarkable rise in Europe of a new interest in 'spatial planning', which is based on the 'relational conception' of "space", at scales from the city-region to the supra-national.
2.The rise of spatial strategies in the UK regional planning and policies, along with the shift from the existing development plans to local development frameworks and community planning.
3.There is dynamism in local and regional governance, from the UK level to local community level. A broader range of political communities are engaged in the decision-making and implementation process, through which the concept and contents of spatial planning have been appearing.
