さまざまな環境低負荷型高分子材料の開発を目的にとキチン・キトサンやタンパク質と脂肪族ポリエステルの複合化を行い、その新規材料の物性・加工性・成形性の改善と実用化に向けた研究を行った。 (1)キチン・キトサンへの脂肪族ポリエステルのグラフト反応 リパーゼを酵素触媒として用いることにより、キチン・キトサンにラクトンがグラフト重合し、脂肪族ポリエステル側鎖を有するキチン・キトサンが生成することをIR分析より明らかにした。また、キトサンのモノマー単位であるD-グルコサミンやセルロースのモノマー単位であるD-グルコース及び誘導体であるメチルα-D-グルコシドピラノサイド(MGP)へのラクトン4)酵素触媒重合について検討し、D-グルコースやMGPにポリエステルが結合した生成物が生じていることを明らかにした。 (2)ポリアミノ酸へのグラフト反応 ポリアミノ酸にはアミノ基を側鎖に持つポリリジンを選択した。水溶性のポリリジン側鎖アミノ基に疎水性の脂肪族ポリエステルをグラフト化することにより、両親媒性生分解性高分子が得られ、その応用化が期待されている。 1-ピレンメチルアミンを開始剤として合成したポリリジンにポリカプロラクトン(PCL :分子量800)を混合し、さらにアミド結合のカップリング試薬であるシアノホスホン酸ジエチルを加え、ポリリジンとPCLのグラフト化反応を行った。ポリリジンは水に、PCLはベンゼンに溶解するが、得られたグラフト体はベンゼンや水には溶解せず、クロロホルムやDMSOに溶解した。グラフト体を1H-NMR、13C-NMRおよびIRで分析を行い、ポリリジンの繰り返し単位に対し、11モル%のPCLがグラフト化されていることと、その分子量は約54,000であることを明らかにした。さらに、ピレンの蛍光スペクトルから、グラフト体のピレンはポリリジン中のピレンより疎水性の微環境中に存在していることが示唆され、ポリリジンとPCLからなるグラフト体が合成されたことが明らかとなった。
