As a first step towards more a comprehensive and extensive study on the interaction between industrial agglomeration and local economic development in the Chinese economy, this study examines the status of industrial development in Yanbian in the China-North Korea-Russia triangle border area. In particular, we examined the inŽuence of a decrease in transport costs on industrial agglomerations in the Yanbian area, and describe the industrial agglomeration gradually appeared in these border areas by increasing international trade with regional economic integration, and decreasing transport costs by maintaining the traffic infrastructure under the support of national development policies. We also clarified that the development strategy covered the disadvantageous initial conditions for industrial agglomerations in the Yanbian area.
  • The Change of Hierarchy of Urban System: Analysis of Office Location Restructuring in Japan (2000-2010) , FUJIMOTO Noritsugu, iscm, 8, (1) 8 - 14,   2014 , The aim of this study was to quantitatively capture changes in the hierarchical structure of head and branch office location from the viewpoint of the national urban system in Japan from 2000 to 2010. The data was extracted from the"Handbook of Organization Charts and Offices (2001 and 2011 editions) "published by Diamond Inc. Large businesses tend to have multi-locational organizations and to locate their head and branch offices in many cities with preferable locational conditions such as cities that offer large market size, ease of information collection, and face-toface contact, especially with government agencies. The"Administrative Structure Charts "published by Institute of Administrative Management were also utilized to understand the distribution of government agencies because of the importance of the location of government organizations on the location of private sector offices. This paper analyzes the data extracted on the locations of head and branch offices of listed companies and administrative agencies, and on the basis of this analysis throws light on the urban system of Japan.

ContributorDecontamination-Intensive Reconstruction Policy in Fukushima Under Governmental Budget Constraint(Chapter 3)Routledge  2017 01 The Fukushima disaster continues to appear in national newspapers when there is another leakage of radiation-contaminated water, evacuation designations are changed, or major compensation issues arise and so remains far from over. However, after five years, attention and research towards the disaster seems to have waned despite the extent and significance of the disaster that remains. The aftermath of Fukushima exposed a number of shortcomings in nuclear energy policy and disaster preparedness. This book gives an account of the municipal responses, citizen’s responses, and coping attempts, before, during, and after the Fukushima crisis. It focuses on the background of the Fukushima disaster, from the Tohoku earthquake to diffusion on radioactive material and risk miscommunication. It explores the processes and politics of radiation contamination, and the conditions and challenges that the disaster evacuees have faced, reflecting on the evacuation process, evacuation zoning, and hope in a post-Fukushima environment. The book will be of great interest to students and scholars of disaster management studies and nuclear policy.
