This research indicates issues and possibilities in architectural theory and community development for effective use of non-square architectural space, which is defined as form with wall, floor, and ceiling other than the Cartesian coordinate direction, through presenting a non-square architectural model based on original algorithmic design methodology and fabricating its mock-up. In non-square architectural space with complex topology, people having different purposes can work individually at each divided space, at the same time can feel a sense of unity and diversity in their experience of seeing others from various viewpoints. Therefore, it is expected that new relationships are built and community is activated through managing non-square architectural space as a public space where residents and visitors can use for various activities.

In this study, we studied a scheme for proposal of effective evacuation route at large fire disaster in a historic town with traditional heritage. As methodology, firstly we set a study model area Hizenhamashuku which is a designated preservation area of traditional buildings located in Kashima city, Saga prefecture. Then, we analyzed evacuation time based on residents' perception on their evacuations in the area. Namely, we set temporary safe places from each house, three primary evacuation places, and target time of evacuation, as a scheme for proposal of evacuation route, then we calculate evacuation times using a multi-agent system, SimTread that is on the market. Finally, we analyze the problematic places abstracted from the simulation to find measures for effective evacuation improvements. We can show the effectiveness of the scheme for proposal of evacuation routes at large fire disaster.

This study is aiming at establishment of a concrete disaster prevention plan for self help and mutual aid of vulnerable people in Japan where aging are getting in advance rapidly. We focuses on a historic preservation area vulnerable to disaster because of congested wooden houses and aging people. This study aims to make clear how the residents think about their evacuation routes from their own houses to primary place for their own security and how to build a disaster prevention support system especially for fire. Here, the disaster prevention support system is one of the base for the residents to consider their security with weak points of the study area. The study area is" Hama-Shozu-Machi, Hma-Kanaya-Machi" in Kashima City of Saga Prefecture, which is one of the important traditional buildings preservation area in Japan. The study methods are hearing about evacuation routes from residents, simulation of measure of prevention from fire spreading and workshop of evacuation drill. As results of hearing about evacuation routes and simulation, to have an open space surrounding a group of straw-roofed houses and to have a fire proofed building considering the existence of the traditional houses are effective for measures to prevent from fire spreading in the preservation area with straw-roofed houses. Additionally, in the evacuation drill workshop, explanation about how to spread fire could make the residents have a common sense about system to prevent from fire disaster.
